Below are a few of the more 'Frequently Asked Questions' split into numerous categories. The answers provided come from good evidence-based medicine. They represent current factual knowledge and therefore act as the foundation stones for you to explore your physical fitness frontiers safely and effectively. As you make discoveries in your future training or competitions please let us know. Also contact us if the recommendations below do or do not work for you. Before you use the information on the following pages it is recommended that you receive medical clearance by your doctor/physician before embarking on an exercise training programme and discuss with them your intentions to enter into sporting/athletic events
It is recommended that:-
- attend regular/routine follow-up checks for your cardiac condition with your doctor/physician
- give your doctor/physician this website's address so that they can check it out and discuss its content with you
- have a graded exercise ECG test, preferably by treadmill and using a standard Bruce, Modified Bruce or similar protocol in order to determine a safe heart rate range for you. In addition to this heart transplant patients should have their Vo2 max measured,[5:155]
- attend a hospital-based cardiac rehabilitation programme (or equivalent) supervised by appropriately qualified medical or health/fitness personnel with expertise in exercise prescription for cardiac patients and who are also ALS/ACLS certified
- start with the lowest intensity training programme of all of your cardiac conditions
